Taylor Alexis Knowles
April 25, 2000 - June 28, 2005
Her life and death have touched us, have made us cry and have made us reflect. Now it is time to celebrate with the grand opening of Taylor's Field at Beach Park -- a place where the children and families of The School for Young Children and the West Hartford community can enjoy the beautiful outdoor experience of a butterfly and hummingbird garden, stroll the fun pathways throughout the garden, marvel at the 2' butterfly perched on the entranceway and laugh & play in the two 20' gazebos.

History
In March 2005, Taylor Alexis Knowles was diagnosed with an inoperable and incurable tumor on her brain stem. Her family, fiends and the surrounding community were shocked by the horrific news. Taylor waged a courageous three-month battle but ultimately lost her life on June 28, 2005. Taylor's tumor slowly robbed her of her motor skills and over the course of those 3 months she lost the ability to walk, talk, eat and finally breathe. She died in her parents' arms. The amazing part of her story is that she never once complained about what was happening to her. The night before she died, Taylor's mother told her that she was going to chase her around the house the next day. Taylor gave her mother the "thumbs up" sign which meant "yes." Even in her final hours she never gave up and never lost her amazing spirit.
Family, friends and the community were extremely supportive of the Knowles family during Taylor's final months. Because of this support during their time of loss, the Knowles family decided to give back to the community by building a memorial at the entrance of the open field adjacent to her preschool, The School for Young Children, in West Hartford. The memorial will create an entranceway into the field. An archway will designate the field as "Taylor's Field at Beach Park."
"Taylor's Field at Beach Park" includes two gazebos, each large enough for a classroom to enjoy outdoor reading and/or arts and crafts -- even if it's raining -- and a hummingbird/butterfly garden for the children to learn about and to take care of. It is also a memorial dedicated to a child, a student full of wonder and eagerness. Taylor taught us to live each and every moment with a smile on our face. We hope her message touches your life and puts a smile on yours.

Thank You
We are extremely grateful for all of the support that we have received since Taylor's passing to make Taylor's Field a reality. We could not and would not have done it without the financial support, donations of time, labor & materials, encouragement, prayers and love from our family, friends and community. Taylor's Field is dedicated to her memory but it has also been built to thank you for all you have done for us. We hope you enjoy Taylor's Field and that you share many good memories and laughs there with your families. We know we will. So, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
May God bless you all.
With all our love,
Keith, Sally, Jacob and Emily Knowles.
